Chapter Fourteen
Julietteâs bedroom window overlooked the driveway, and she had a perfect view of the moon. She couldnât sleep as she replayed her night with Alec in her mind. A carâs horn shattered her calm, and she rushed to the window, seeing Alec slumped over the steering wheel of his bullet-riddled car. Her head whipped left and right as she wondered if she should run down the stairs or jump out of the window.
Juliette opened her window and climbed to the ledge. She tried remembering what Pascal taught her. She held her hands out and landed near Alecâs car with a thud.
âAlec, what happened?â Juliette screamed.
Blood covered his shirt and dripped down his hands.
âI ran into some bad guys,â he said.
âYouâre bleeding.â
Denkins and Ellen arrived and helped Juliette walk Alec into the house.
Alec trailed blood as he was placed on the towel-covered sofa.
âTell me what happened.â Juliette kneeled by Alecâs side and unbuttoned his shirt, revealing dozens of small bullet holes.
âI was driving back to the hotel. And these guys attacked me,â he said in a whisper.
Ellen stood behind him shaking her head, mouthing the word âmagicâ as she pointed to the light shining through his shirt fabric. The room smelled like cinnamon as the magic pebbles glowed blue.
âHow did they attack you, Alec?â Juliette touched his face, trying to keep him awake. Denkins helped Juliette cut Alecâs shirt off his body.
Pascal walked into the room and said, âOh, my. They hurt the boy.â He rushed to the sofa.
âHe blew pebbles at me. Just dumb little rocks. How can they hurt so bad?â Alecâs eyes closed. He writhed and clutched at his chest while shivering.
âHeâs lost a lot of blood,â Ellen said, covering him with a blanket. âHeâs running out of time, Juliette.â
âThese enchanted pebbles will not stop until they work their way through Alec,â Pascal shook his head. âItâs painful and a slow death.â
Juliette took a deep breath and said, âAlec, stay with me, I think you were attacked by wiâby different kinds of people. We canât call 911 for this. They wonât be able to help you. But I can,â Juliette said. Her heart pounded, and she rubbed her hands together. She couldnât let him die.
âYou can do this, Juliette,â Denkins said.
âTrust me,â Juliette said to Alec. She clasped his hands to her chest as he lay in the hands of death.
She looked at Ellen, Denkins, and Pascal who stood silent.
âYou healed your aunt. You can heal him. Believe in yourself,â Pascal said.
Juliette pulled off her glove and the jewel pulsed blue. She placed one hand on Alecâs right arm and the other on his chest. She closed her eyes and energy flowed out of her fingers. She realized that the part of her she was hiding from Alec would end up saving him. She focused, feeling her energy weaken. She gripped him tighter and felt her power pulled into his core as she healed him.
Alec convulsed and then trembled as the pebbles squished out of each wound followed by a greenish liquid then blood.
